All Infrared Heaters Are Not Created Equal

As infrared heaters become more popular we have seen tons of infrared heaters pop up all over the internet. A true infrared heater has only a few main components to convert electric energy to heat energy. Here is an example on how a true infrared heater works:

Digital Heat Gun

When an infrared heater is turned on the infrared heating elements or infrared tubes use the electricity to heat themselves to a very high temperature depending on the size and wattage or the infrared element itself. these infrared tubes or elements are located in what is known as a heat chamber. The heat chamber is usually (and most efficiently) lined with copper plating to trap the heat inside and prevent heat from escaping. The heat chamber should be shaped in a S shape with the heating chamber located in the middle of the S. A strong fan located at the bottom of the S shaped chamber will force the heat out the top of the S shaped chamber often call the exhaust port. When the fan pulls in the air from the room the air is passed over the infrared heating elements inside the copper chamber heating the air on average to between 160 and 200 degrees. The warm air is then forced out of the heat chamber into the room.

Digital Heat Gun

Heaters that claim to be true infrared heaters that use coil or PTC elements are not true infrared heaters. A true infrared heater will not dry out or destroy humidity in the air. A coil type element is often used in space heaters as a main heat source. The problem with this is it will dry the humidity and leave the environment it is heating stuffy, dry, and uncomfortable. A good example of this would be like trying to heat a room with a hair dryer. It will get warm very quickly and a few minutes after the hair dryer is turned off it will become even colder than before because the humidity or water molecules in the air have been destroyed.

Infrared heaters do not heat the air. A true infrared heater will heat any object it comes in contact with including water molecules, carpet, furniture, and even the human body. Because the human body is over 75% water infrared heat will warm our bodies similar to the rays of the sun without the damaging UV rays.

An excellent reason why infrared heaters are so energy efficient is because of the objects they heat. When an object in a room is heated by infrared heat and object can no longer take in more heat it will start to give off the heat it has absorbed turning object in a room basically into heaters themselves.

Infrared heat has also been used for many years to assist in therapy of all sorts of medical conditions such as:

Asthma, bronchitis (cleared up).
Rheumatoid arthritis (7 out of 10 cases resolved in one clinical trial).
Benign prostatic hypertrophy (reduced).
Cancer pain (greatly relieved pain in later stages).
Cirrhosis of the liver (reversed).
Chrone's Disease (gone).
Cold hand and feet (a physical therapist discovered 20-50% improvement was maintained).
Cystitis (gone).
Duodenal ulcers (eliminated).
Compression fracture pain.
Gastritis (relieved).
Hemorrhoids (reduced).
Hepatitis (gone).
High blood pressure (in the case of a diabetic a systolic decrease from 180 to 125 +
concurrent weight loss).
Keloids (significantly softened and, in some cases, completely gone).
Leg ulcers (healed when previously static and resistant to other care).
Menopause.
Pain preventing sleep or limiting sleeping positions (relieved).
Post-surgical adhesions (reduced).
Radiation sickness (relieved signs and symptoms).
Sequel of strokes (Herniparesis relieved over time).

Although an infrared heater in your home is not going to treat or cure any medical conditions I am simply using this as example to show that infrared heat is a safe, clean, comfortable, energy efficient, and healthier way to heat your home.

Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector Overview

The Black & Decker Thermal Leak Detector helps you increase the efficiency of your home's insulation by finding weak areas that can lead to higher heating and cooling bills. You'll instantly identify problem areas around drafty windows and doors, and uncover hidden leaks and insulation "soft spots" around your home. Check windows, ducts, and walls with the thermal reference light that indicates hot and cold spots. You can even use the detector to diagnose engine misfires or check your refrigerator and freezer settings.

Easy-to-Read Color Coding and Screen
The Thermal Leak Detector makes it easy to monitor your home's energy efficiency by finding areas that let heat out and cold air in. Simply set the detector's temperature tolerances to one, five, or 10 degrees and scan the light across the area you want to inspect. The light will change to red for warmer spots and blue for cooler spots to detect air leaks in both warm and cool weather. The detector also displays temperatures in either Fahrenheit or Celsius on the LCD screen. Check for drafts or leaks around your fireplace, recessed lighting, electrical outlets, along floor molding, or any place that may have improper seals, caulking, or seams that aren't immediately visible. An included booklet gives you tips and instructions on how to seal leaks and improve insulation.

Cut Energy Bills and Improve Your Home's Efficiency
Sealing the leaks and improving insulation in your home can help you save as much as 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills. An efficient, greener home will stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter, increasing its resale value.

Multiple Uses to Handle Uncommon Tasks
Use the Thermal Leak Detector to check your refrigerator and freezer temperatures and efficiency. Diagnose engine problems related to overheating or coolant leaks to avoid costly repairs and mechanic bills down the road. The Thermal Leak Detector can also check the operation of your HVAC system, so you can perform preventative maintenance as needed.

The Black & Decker Thermal Leak Detector is covered by a two-year warranty.
